Steroids from starfish protect nerve cells

As shown by scientists from the G.B. Elyakov Pacific Institute of Bioorganic Chemistry FEB RAS in collaboration with the Institute of Molecular Biology and Biophysics SB RAMS, biologically active substances from starfish not only enhance the growth of nerve processes, but also protect the nerve cells under conditions of oxygen starvation and malnutrition.

This work is published in the international scientific journal Marine Drugs, 2013, 11, 5, 1440 - 1455.
